I tried that first just for giggles, but the disk parks and Windows apparently
never even starts, freezing after the boot logo disappears.

Worth a shot.

I don't have any spares, unfortunately. It's a really nice Silverstone 500EF
or 550EF, heavy, good caps, and so forth. Anything is possible, but I hope
it's not the power supply. The prior that died was I think a 400 CoolMax PSU
or some nonsense. One of two, both I've had in production have failed now.
(I tend to spent ~ $100 on PSUs now...)

Sounds nice -- I found my old 6600GT. Not sure if it works. The box stopped
turning on reliably in 2006 and eventually the power supply died. I replaced
it, but it started crashing constantly.

I reversed the flow of one of the side fans and it's been fine ever, since, but
that was with the 7600-GS. I swapped the 6600GT thinking it was damaged, but
maybe it was only overheating as the 7600-GS was...

If it's broken, maybe I'll take you up on the offer. I probably remember
reading a post by you six years ago about your 6800GT... ;) At the time I
likely had a Ti4200 or the truly awful ATI 9600-SE, with 64-bit memory bus!
That was _worthless_!
