[Leaplist] Different netbooks ... CPU and GPU limitations (or not) ...

Yeah, that's about the same size as the Dell OptiPlex P3 I'm using.

I flirted with Mini-ITX over the years, and have recycled MicroATX
systems into the SFF cases (12"x12"x5.5" -- 2x the thickness).

In the end, I can't justify spending for an Atom when an old, recycled
or sub-$40 P3 FlexATX will do the same job with similar performance
and won't such up that much more power.

Again, if you asked me back in 2006 (or so) what Intel was doing, I could
repeat what the media was specualting -- that they were preparing an
embedded x86 to replace XScale (ARM) for embedded. Netbook concepts
were unheard of, especially with the "Microsoft tax."

Little did anyone know that Intel would give an 80% rebate on that tax,
cutting it to $5 instead of $25. Of course, they've jacked it way, way up
with Windows 7 (both netbook and full pricing) for OEMs.

It isn't available right now but this is the one I got:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856107036
It was $140 when I got mine (the N330 dual core version was +$20)
I added a 1GB DIMM from Crucial for $15
The 2 NICs I already had.

The system network boots so I didn't add any local storage (no hard drive
or optical drive).

The NICs I put in it are an Intel e1000 gig-e PCI card and an old SMC made
dual port DC21140 Tulip PCI card. I haven't used the integrated Realtek
NIC.
