Yes, I agree with Bryan here. None of the pro-3.5" drive opinions I
have posted would apply to external drives. External drives get moved
around and that is what 2.5" drives are designed for.
I too would not recommend refurbished hard drives. The best case with a
refurbished drive is a manufacturer refurbished drive. These are what
you get when you replace a hard drive under warranty. They will
probably work but their purpose is to serve out the remainder of the
original drive's warranty. If the drive was refurbished by someone
other than the manufacturer it is a crap shoot at best.
I don't have any specific models to suggest as I do not use or shop for
external hard drives but any well made new one with a 2.5" drive inside
should be a decent one. I would however suggest you try to get one that
supports both USB and ESATA if possible. You will find that ESATA is
much faster than USB and if you are dealing with a TB of data that will
be very significant.
