No i have never tried my hand at slackware.  kind of afraid of it 
*grins*.  as for gentoo, i used sabayon, it is gentoo on steroids so far 
as OOTB working stuff.  sadly they have botched their networking tool 
and i was not going to waist any more time fixing their problem.
