I agree.
For three systems, it just hasn't been worth the effort. I have a BartPE CD
with a preconfigured XP install along with some typical software available as
PE plugins that I can load when a system finally goes down.
I had come across a CD/USB based package that would backup a Windows system
via FTP or Samba, but I now forget what it was. Only downside seemed to be
that you had to reboot, since it was a bootable CD/USB.
Probably a bit easier when then hardware involved is all identical, at least
when dealing with Microsoft Windows. Mine are an assortment of random junk.
(BartPE was happy to include various drivers for it all anyway.)
Backula seems to offer bare-metal recovery for Windows XP and beyond, though
I'd have to test it myself to see...
