Hi all,

I have been living in Central Florida for the past 7 years, and have
been a part of some LUG-related activities in the past at UCF.

There is an opening at the Planetary Sciences group in the Department
of Physics, University of Central Florida, Orlando. I work here now,
and I thought some list members might be interested in this.

The following is the text of the ad for the position:

Researchers in the Planetary Sciences Group seek a full-time Linux
System Manager and Programmer. Essential characteristics include a
high degree of personal competence, ability to work both in a group
and independently for extended periods, creativity in solving
problems, excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication
skills, and an eagerness to learn and teach new concepts and
technologies.

An ideal candidate will have experience with:

   *      Administering Ubuntu/Debian Linux-based workstations in a
production environment
   *      Designing and building custom workstations and servers from
specifications
   *      Maintaining a collection of local software across multiple hosts
   *      Configuring and building custom Linux kernels and handling
device driver issues
   *      Configuring and administering Beowulf/Perceus clusters and
the Apache2 httpd server
   *      Managing Subversion repositories and secure backup services
for researchers
   *      Unix/Linux systems programming with Bash, Python, Perl, etc.
   *      Developing and maintaining PHP and/or Python-based
database-driven websites
   *      Managing Windows installations (virtualized under Linux)
   *      Working to specification and direction, and documenting for
subsequent managers
   *      Managing many competing responsibilities

Desired:

   *      Written communication skills demonstrated by publications
   *      Oral communication skills demonstrated by, e.g.,
teaching/training experience
   *      Experience with Cloud Computing, Drupal, Python/SciPy, IDL,
Matlab, C, MPI
   *      Track record of contributing to open source projects
   *      Experience writing user and technical documentation

Minimum Qualifications:

This Academic and Professional (A&P) position has excellent benefits
but strictly requires a relevant Master's degree, or a relevant
Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional
candidates not meeting these requirements may be considered for casual
(OPS) hire.
