I will be bringing Jason tomorro.
I have met with, and invited, the folks who are interested in Linux who
work at Refresh Computers, in Longwood, (Neal can make it, he also
independently owns a recruiting business, that uses Asterix).
Everyone there runs, and is familiar with, Linux and the BSDs. They
promote Linux to customers. Bought a 17" LCD for $19,99. Yeah, there
are some dead pixels, but, it is lighter to carry than the CRTs, to the
Installfests!
Also invited some of the guys at Southeastern Data, that has almost any
computer, or part, you can imagine, on the shelf. I saw a Compaq
Suitcase unit, that was created back when they weighed about 25 pounds,
and used a 6 inch CRT monitor, and 5.25 inch Floppies, and ran DOS and
possibly Windows 3.0. I know that there is a Linux for that!
Also saw an IBM RS-6000. There are plotters, mobile radios, and tons of
servers of all vintages. Pallets of newer systems are there, and some
can be had cheap!
Donald and Jon should be at the Installfest around Noon. They will
bring some neat stuff to show, and want to see if there are any systems,
or goodies, that could be useful to any of us. I like the Gateway LCD
computers.
I intend to get there by 11 AM. Should I get some Costco Pizza for the
crowd, on the way?
