I think that it could be one of two things.  The first is something in  
the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.  I googled: linux video modes atirv610

If that doesn't work then I suggest experimenting with the vga= part  
of the grub or lilo config.  Try setting the text display to 0x0f00 or  
to a resolution that corresponds to the resolution that you are  
running in X.  See /usr/src/linux/Documentation/svga.txt or
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions

I am not certain that any of the suggestions will help.  Having spent  
a good part of the week trying to get a triple head X configuration  
working all I know for sure is there is black magic in the video  
stuff. :-)
