A brief Google seems implies that your machine is well supported in
Linux and HP:

However, In the past I have not had a great deal of luck with Linux
and Optical Character Recognition OCR. If I understand correctly, it
was your hope to scan legal documents (forms, agreements, etc.) and
convert them into editable text-based documents.
This article http://groundstate.ca/ocr implies that Linux/OCR have
improved -- at times achieving 99% accurately from the software. If
his advice is true, your in pretty good shape.
