I am actually still using Knoppix-5.3.1 for this however it is getting a
bit dated which means it doesn't support everything anymore.  I didn't
really like Knoppix-6.0

I have heard great things about http://www.sysresccd.org/ but I haven't
gotten around to trying it yet.

Whatever I get it must be able to network boot.  Booting from optical
media is just too slow and you can never find your disc when you need it.
