Yes, I do consider IPCop to be a newbie oriented firewall system. I
don't really like Linux's iptables system but it is fairly effective and
it isn't that hard to configure it yourself without something like IPCop
to make it "easy" while constraining you to whatever they thought of
when they wrote it.
I do prefer pf in OpenBSD as it is better all around than iptables. The
rules are much easier to understand and the performance is better too.
I do believe there are GUIs of some kind available to make pf "easier"
like IPCop does for iptables but I have never bothered to look at one so
I can't say what they are or how good they are.
Having said all that I don't know how to setup PPTP either way as I have
never used PPTP. I have however used OpenVPN which simply shows up as a
new interface (tun0 in OpenBSD) so you simply make new firewall rules
for it allowing whatever needs to be allowed.
