Sounds like an over zealous technician. Most likely they had an issue 
with a Linux user who demanded support. The support guys probably only 
know about Windows. Actually if you know what you are doing Linux is a 
much better easier network operating system. If you use a router and or 
firewall they don't know what operating system you use. As one poster 
said a packet is a packet . I am sure they use Linux to run their ISP 
service. This is funny in a perverse way. AT&T  invented Unix . Unless 
they disconnect your account it should work just fine as it always has. 
I use Bright House and don't have any problems at all. You can use them 
if your ISP shuts you down.
