agreed.
i remember one year we had blanks which already had a plain white
surface on them, and an inkjet printer with an insert to actually
print the artwork on the CDs... but it sounds like those aren't the
blanks you bought.
which means if we're going to use paper envelopes, we need somebody to:
- - buy enough sheets of CD labels to make 300 CDs, or a few more in
case of problems (i'm pretty sure the board has already approved money
for this, if not i think it's fair to say we will reimburse whoever
buys 'em, just make sure you don't go crazy with it... also don't buy
anything until the board picks somebody to actually DO the buying.)
- - somebody to design the artwork for the CDs.
- - somebody to physically print the labels, about 105 of each.
at the same time, we also need to figure out who's going to burn what.
if the answer is anything other than "phil burns everything", then
whoever's going to burn CDs needs to make arrangements with phil to
pick up the blanks he's already purchased, or to get their own blanks
and trade them for phil's blanks at the next installfest (which is the
weekend before the hamcation.)
i have two CD burners sitting on the desk next to me, and i have an un-
opened stack of 100 CD-Rs, so unless somebody else claims it first,
i'll make 100 linux minut CDs. we need volunteers to burn the others.
somebody also needs to positively identify which "ham puppy linux"
we'll have at the show, and the URL where we can download the ISO, so
those people know where to get the ISO. i plan to download it and burn
one for myself, and i'd like to actually have it installed on my
machine "off to the side" where i'll have my radio hooked up to the
computer and an antenna, and showing off how the digital software works.
at the next installfest, anybody who has a CD label "stamper" should
bring it with them. that's when we'll take the burned CDs and the
printed labels, introduce the two to each other, and feed them into
paper sleeves.
and during the week after that, anybody who plans on working the table
(i'll be there again) can take one of the "ham linux" CDs and spend
some time playing with it at home, so they'll be familiar with it at
the table.
one other point- has somebody spoken to the hamcation organizers about
the logistics of putting an antenna up, either on the roof, or at
least somewhere high enough to be useful? does somebody have an
antenna we can use (i have a 5BTV in my parents' shed, but it hasn't
been used in several years and i don't know if it's still in good
shape or not) or do we plan to borrow parts from the guy at the next
table and put it together on the spot? if so, do we have a way to
contact him and make sure he's cool with loaning us the parts again
this year?
