I searched and found several messages from Ubuntu users who saw the
same errors you describe. Some people have better luck trying
different brands of media with that burner, others have better luck by
reducing their burn speed.
(I read all this by searching http://www.google.com/linux and my
search was only the model number PX-755SA)
Not sure how old your drive is, but you might check to see if it would
benefit from a firmware update:
http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/firm_755SA.htm
The most recent one seems to be v1.08 from September, 2007.
(I imagine that .exe file might mean you'd have to boot from a Windows
floppy and then run the update... That's what I've done when forced
to work on equipment for which a .exe is the only available packaging
for firmware updates.)
*** - You should double check to make sure any downloads fit exactly
the model of burner you're using. If you mismatch them you could
"brick" the thing, and that would be not my fault.
Personally I have experienced several situations (including DVD ISO
burns and CD-R music CD burns) using different brands of burners where
reducing my burn speed to 8x or even 4x has produced better results.
