[Leaplist] OOo question with large numbers

Gnumeric is one of the best spreadsheets ever created.
It's Excel compatibility was outstanding, and had numerous functions.
It was clearly written by people who wanted power in their spreadsheets.
Almost as if some people who used Borland Quattro first wrote it in the
late '90s.

It's was also outstanding if you have any legacy, column data.
At least compared to any other solution at the time of Gnumeric's release.
Sure, I could crank out awk/sed to do a lot of things, but not others.
MS Excel couldn't do jack, and most people paid $200-300 for a
program called "Monarch" (IIRC) to get similar in the late '90s.

I haven't used Gnumeric in a long time since I have largely just adopted Calc.
I still prefer LyX for numerous publications (and layout with Scribus), but I now
just do 50% of my writing in Writer as well. But it was definitely the best tool
in the Linux world for many years.

Ray, this isn't responsive to your question, but have you ever considered
using gnumeric? I use gnumeric all the time and love it.

Whether text documents, presentations, or spreadsheets, I've always had
trouble with OO. I'm not saying OO's defective -- maybe it's just defective
user, but I always use LyX instead of OO Writer, and gnumeric instead of OO
spreadsheet.
