Thanks Derek,

in the foo.bib snippet,

@article{ni:wire,
author = {Michael Thaddeus Niemier and Peter M. Kogge},
  title = {Exploring and exploiting wire-level pipelining
in emerging technologies}, journal = {ACM SIGARCH Computer
Architecture News}, volume = {29},
  number = {2},
  year = {2001},
  issn = {0163-5964},
  pages = {166--177},
  doi = {http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/384285.379261},
  publisher = {ACM Press},
  }

do you remember if the "ni:wire" in the first line is
arbitrary? I think I've seen examples with way more stuff
after the colon, and I like your example better.
