Hey folks,
I'm currently putting together a presentation on open source software
development, and looking for ideas. In particular, I'm looking for good
explanations of what open source is, and why you should do it. (and not in
lengthy endless paper form) I'm also looking for answers to all the usual
devil's advocate questions you expect people to ask. I figured sending this
out here would be a good way to get some ideas to work in.
Of course here's the catch... This presentation is on *writing* open source
software, *not* using open source. (except as embodied by development tools)
The forum in which I'll be presenting is a conference on mobile device
software development, which is a community that has yet to seriously embrace
open source. (you see a lot of commercial and shareware, but that's it) I'd
like to try and change that.
I expect my target audience to consist of primarily of two groups of people:
1) People writing internal corporate applications
2) People selling applications to customers
P.S. While I do intend to mention the various licenses, I'd like to promote
*both* BSD and GPL styles for their different appropriate situations.
P.P.S. There shall be no mention of MS in any comments, either directly or
indirectly, as they have *nothing* to do with this conference. (its a
BlackBerry conference) In fact, the 1000lb gorilla in the room here is Apple
and the iPhone.
Thanks in advance for any useful comments or ideas
