Wouldn't surprise me if it works against itself just fine.  It doesn't seem to 
handle the XML schema entirely correct, though.  I used 1.0.1, the latest 
version available.  The update interface always felt like a hack.  Kontact 
handles the syncing seamlessly in the background, seemingly with less server 
traffic, too.

It's mildly amusing that just today, KMail decided to hang when accessing one 
of my IMAP accounts.  Even nuking all the config files doesn't resolve it.  
Of course, Thunderbird works fine with the same account.  So does tunneling 
the port over SSH and accessing it via localhost.  Extremely bizarre.  I 
suppose I should've kept my mouth closed, eh? ;)

(Amusingly, KDE4's KMail also works fine with it.)
