More seriously now, it's good to become familiar with various
tunables, especially for those that use VMware, Xen, KVM, etc...
Other, specific applications, I/O bottlenecks, etc... will have
theirs as well.

But in general, for everyday usage, I constantly remind
myself that the kernel team and distro vendors know far
better than I do for their typical deployment than I do.
I've had the same view on many things, even developer
level (like trusting the optimized target in a compiler versus
bothering to even look at assembling for today's superscalar
microprocessors).  But that's just me.

Although I thought the ear semi-quote was appropriate.  :)
