Slices (partitions) that are closer to the beginning of the
drive will have the highest data transfer rate (DTR), although
seek times (latency, lower is better) may vary.

My swap is typically in LVM, and one of the first slices
I create. If not, then I typically create it as the first
slice
(logical partition) in the Extended disk label (partition,
although really a partition table of its own).  This would
typically be hda5/sda5.
