I've been dealing with x86-64 for almost 5 years, and various
i686 PAE (for 8-32GiB) installations for almost a decade. This
includes the "controversial" Red Hat 4G/4G "hugemem" kernel.

The fastest Linux kernel model is actually 1G user, 3G kernel.
It only gives you 960MiB of memory. If you have a system with
only 1MiB of memory, this kernel is recommended.

In fact, many application-specific distros (e.g., appliances)
often run with this model, and people start scratching their
heads when they see only 960MiB when they had 2GiB (or more).

I don't have a "favorite Linux distro." I use, develop
and support community efforts, often built around Linux.
Technology and solutions are my focus, not dragging in
assumptions, marketing and other concepts which dominate
non-community developed software, which I left long ago.
