Hi Ingo,

This doesn't directly answer your question, but if you have a second Linux 
box, you could use that second box as a backup server, rsh all changes to the 
backup server, and burn your DVDs from there. You get lightning quick 
backups, every backup is both incremental and full, and you can burn on a 
non-used box while using the heck out of your daily driver. See this...
