[Leaplist] Accidentally sent

Gentlemen and Ladies:
Re my inability to get online.
A few minutes ago I used the commands suggested and given to me by John
Simpson.
Since I couldn't get online using my MAIN Desktop Computer, I have been
sending pleas for help and receiving suggestions for "fixes"
from subscribers to the Leaplist E-Mail Forum. Necessarily I've used a
second older computer in order to be able to go online.
When John's commands DID INDEED enable my MAIN Desktop Computer to get
back online, I didn't notice that the post (see below)
was still in the Outbox.
So when I tested the fixed "get-online" capability, this old post to
the Leaplist was unconsciously sent out again.
Apologies for the redundancy.
Finally, I am truly grateful that there is a Leaplist-cf.org.
For some 4 years I have been trying to learn a little Linux operating
skills (don't laugh) but
never had the kind of guidance I have been so lucky to receive from
several members of Leaplist.
In particular, in this case, Richard Ostrow pointed me down the right
trail. Hardly had I started studying Richard's pointers when John
Simpson
explained what my error message was telling me and then gave me the
actual commands to use to make the "fix."
The fix worked.
Believe me--I've done considerable reading during the interim and
scanning quite a number of "man" pages.
Again, "mil gracias"
William

Subject: Can't get online post InstallFest
Date: Tue, 07 Oct 2008 11:46:12 -0400
I attended the last InstallFest.
My Op System is Fedora core 9.
Several Attendees there worked on my IPCop project at the Saturday
InstallFest..
During that process, there was a long period of time in which my
computer
could not go online. We were stumped as to the cause.
Jack solved the problem when he discovered that in the Firefox Web
Browser
" File===>Work Offline" was Checked. The Check was removed and
access
to the Internet was restored and worked normally.
I brought all the hardware back home and the problem has arisen again.
But now, even if I un-check "File==>Work Offline" my computer will NOT
go online.
The same probelm exists for the E-Mail program (Evolution E-Mail)
When I compose a message and hit "Send," I get an error message like
this:
"Error while performing operation.
Host lookup failed: smtp-server.cfl.rr.com: Temporary failure in name
resolution"
I will send this post but will have to use my wife's computer to do it.
Any suggestions will be gratefully received.
Thanks,
William
