Even DVI/HDMI isn't not "future proof." In fact, it's
just another great example of falicy when it comes to many
tech professionals believing one thing is happening, but
in actuality, something else completely different is the
reality of the fugure.
DisplayPort is gaining mindshare at the engineering end
of things because it finally addressed what DVI and HDMI
did not, micro-electronics reduction, especially the LVDS
in notebooks. You'll start to see DisplayPort more and
more on notebooks and high-integration systems, with
external, "active" adapters for backward compatibility.
As it saves money at "both ends," you'll probably start
to see it in inexpensive LCDs for businesses, even if not
at your local computer superstore where consumers would
not accept the lack of legacy compatibility (although it
could make for a good "loss leader" where the consumer
has to buy an active adapter, although some consumer
laws might prevent that, such as those in Florida ;).
