If it's a school for people under 30, they probably don't need anything more 
than 17. My first computer, at age 34, was a Kaypro 2x with a "greenscreen" 
that was probably 12 inches. It was just fine with me, there was nothing I 
couldn't read.

:-) Now I have to squint for my 1024x768 19", while wearing my prescription 
glasses.
