On the top of the main K3B screen, click "tools" then "burn CD image". 
This tells it to put the iso file system which is inside the iso file 
onto the CD - write the CONTENTS of the iso file to the CD instead of 
the file itself.

If you just try to drag the iso file to the CD, it treats an iso file 
just like any other file. Don't feel bad, I spoiled several CDs before I 
got that figured out.
