Yes and this is no different than putting in a new hard disk. It has no 
partitions and no format. So it can't be mounted.

Typically, you do not prepare a blank CD by formatting it first and then 
putting data on it later, but instead you prepare a partition, format and 
data image and then write it to the CD all in one shot.

My suggestion follows the others here. Start up the excellent CD writing 
program K3B and learn how to use it.
