I believe that might have been true a while ago, but not so much
anymore. The installers have gotten much better, as well as their
ability to discover hardware. I remember having quite a few problems
getting things to run or load when trying to install Red Hat 7.1 on a
Dell. It was a whole lotta Google and sleepless nights getting that
machine straightened out. Now look at all of the laptops running Debian,
Fedora, Ubuntu, Mint, etc. It has gotten much better, and keeps getting
better.
I know that you are having a problem with a machine. Did you try the
Debian net install? I have been curious if that installed correctly for you.
