then you're already running LVM... which means you can boot into a  
live CD, shrink the filesystem which is taking up all the space,  
shrink the LV which contains it, and then the VG will have enough room  
to create more LVs using whatever scheme you like.

or if your goal is to simply control how much disk space each person  
uses, you can always set up quotas on the existing filesystem...
