[Leaplist] Install Fedora Core 8

Thank you, Patrick.
Well --- here's the Plan for Partitioning which was in my mind as I
booted the Fedora Core 8 Installation Disk for the first time in my new
Computer. The Computer had been built for me with my specific
instruction NOT to install any Op. System on it. That instruction was
honored I am sure. LEK built it and they have always done nothing but
good work for me.
I had planned to use ONLY the Custom Manual Partitioning approach in the
Installation of fedora Core 8 and that's what I did---------initially.
I was going to create and assign Mount Points, Size, File system type etc.
I was going to first create the "/" partition --- size it --- etc. I
was going to force it to be a Primary Partition.
My next job was to create a "/boot" partition---size it, etc. and force
it to be a Primary Partition.
The next step in my plan was to create a SWAP partition, size it, etc.
and force it to be a
Primary partition. (I'm not sure that SWAP has to be a Primary Partition.)
My plan was then to create a LVM Extended Partition which would have
been the 4th Primary Partition. I was going to make it something like
250 GB in size.
Then I was going to create at least 6 Logical Volume Directories inside
the Extended # 4 Primary Partition. These were to be named with family
names. Except for one of the LVM Partitions which was going to be
/home/william. I was going to make this special
LVM Partition quite large in size since it would hold almost all my
personal files.
I actually did what I'm saying above.
EXCEPT---EXCEPT...................
For some reason or other the Fedora core 8 Install Disk ---when it
offers the screen where the Partition Creations may begin---for some
reason it lists the Logical Volume Management
option choices First on the Screen. The choice of "Hard Drives" on my
computer screen is the last line visible on the screen (unless you
scroll down, which I am sorry to say, I did not, initially)
So I started right in creating the Primary Partitions as planned but I
put them in the Logical Volume area-which was of course, now I say, in
retrospect, ----WRONG!
Then I went ahead and started on down the screen to "Hard Drives." When
I began to create partitions there, I was creating partitions named with
family names and I repeatedly got
error messages on the Screen when I would make Create Partition Entries
in the Hard Drives Sector. As you'll divine, I thought I was creating
LVM Partitions.
I became frustrated and after trying for a long time to delete the
incorrectly located Primary Partitions and re-creating them in the
proper Hard Drive location, the Screen continued to announce Errors
after each attempt. I spent quite some time attempting what I'm writing
about now.
Frustrated, I finally gave up, concluding that I was completely out of
order, and went back and
accepted the "Default Partitioning" and so Default Partitioning is on my
Hard Drive now. None of the Partitions I had attempted to create were
present on the system as demonstrated with the "df -h"
command........of course.
The problem now is: There is no room/no space left on the Hard Drive
since it is completely filled up----100%----with the Default
Partitioning which the Install Disk gave me correctly when I asked it to.
If I got this same e-mail under other circumstances I'd be bored stiff
and delete it.
Thanks to all who have put up with this diatribe so far.
See some of you tomorrow. After scanning this, probably no one will show up!
