Fast enough that I never felt like seeking numbers or tweaking. My wife uses
windows (which I only condone because her sewing maching is so damn cool ;),
everything else uses nfs for file sharing so I'm running samba and nfs. The
biggest use is probably streaming audi with mt-daap. I've had 3 clients
running simultaneously (different playlists: haven't tried synchronizing yet)
with out any issues. I haven't done much streaming video but what I have done
was fine. In fact, I've started ripping to FLAC to have lossless archives so
mt-daap is not only streaming, but transcoding on the fly. (I'll add an
endorsement of the Roku Soundbridge [http://www.rokulabs.com/] here, too.)
Now.... add in compiling stuff and it slows down ;) I just recently put Debian
on it. I was in a hurry and missed that I could have put the EABI port on it.
EABI is noticably faster on my Zaurus so I'll probably re-install when I get
some free time.

Wireless Distribution System. I've got 2 WRTGs. One is at the cable connection,
the other upstairs, both running OpenWRT. I added a Buffalo something in the
basement for my mom because it did WDS out of the box. Basically, the WDS peers
connect to the root (at the cable) and just bridge DHCP and extend the wireless
range. The nice part about the WRTGs is the open switch ports. So the one in
the upstairs closet has an NSLU2 and a Brother laser printer plugged into it so
they're accessible via wireless as well. It makes an extraordinarily quiet and
compact server room. I ordered the other NSLU2 when I found out Debian was
supported on it. I want to hook that up to an HP multifunction Officejet so I
can have wireless fax, scanning and color printing. The hpijs/ojs is aleged to
work fine with Debian on the "slug." We'll see. I never could get it to compile
on OpenSlug.
