[Leaplist] FYI, to WINE users playing World of Warcraft, RE: WoW 2.4 Update

Greetings,

I'm using Fedora 8 (kernel 2.6.24.3-34.fc8), WINE (wine-0.9.56), and
nVidia video card drivers (169.12) to play World of Warcraft. These
versions are "stock" --by which I mean "they're from Fedora and/or
Livna repo's and I did not modify them."

Today is the update to Version 2.4. I had a minor problem, I worked
around it, hope this will help other WoW fans using Linux to play it.

When you I logged in to the game, Blizzard's update program sees
there's a new version available. The Blizzard update/dowload
application starts and correctly downloads the necessary files.

At the end of the download, when Blizzard's updater first tries to run
I received the error that it was waiting for all files to close. This
is where it stayed, and the update did not start.

At this point I "cancel" the update, and terminate the WoW application
(which seemed stuck/frozen).

Then in a shell logged in as myself (*not* root) I did this:
cd "/home/fuzzy/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/World of
Warcraft/Patches/WoW-2.3.3-to-2.4.0-enUS-Win-patch"
wine ./BNUpdate.exe

(Of course if your name's not "fuzzy" then you'll likely have a
different home directory.)

A new dialogue/progress box opened up, and the update began. :)

When the update finished the game started, I logged in, it's all good.

Hope this helps a fellow WoW addict somewhere. :)
