Since when did a Windows install complete with a 100% success rate? Have
you ever tried installing Windows from an official Microsoft CD onto a
laptop before?

Step 1: Do the installation (more complex if hardware has an HD controller
unsupported by the install CD, though this is unlikely)
Step 2: Find the dozen driver downloads on the manufacturer's website,
using a different computer
Step 3: Transfer the drivers using something like a USB thumbdrive or CD-R
Step 4: Install said drivers, rebooting a few times
Step 5: Go to Windows Update, install about a hundred updates or so
(relative to age of the CD used in Step 1)

By the end of the process, you've wasted the better part of the day.

The only way this gets easier, is if the laptop manufacturer has
pre-installed for you, or provides a restore disc specific to your
hardware setup.
