It's not that the printer changes from landscape to portrait, it's that 
it prints perpendicular the the direction specified. All places where I 
can define the size or orientation are correct.

What I *can't* set properly is the medias size in the Print module of 
OOo (under printer properties for HP5550). It has a list of media sizes 
that doesn't include 12x9 (or 9x12), and there appears to be no way to 
create a custom media size there.

There are two sizes that have 12" widths, 12x17 and 12x16.93". Both 
print sideways.

Perhaps someone knows a way to create a custom media size?
