the printer does not know its an envelope it only knows it has paper in
it. In fact most lasers only know the max size they can print. So if
it prints 11x17 and you create an 11x17 document and only put in 8.5 x
11 it still prints outside the 8.5 x 11 page and just puts toner inside
the printer, not on the pager.. Some are smart enough to select a
default paper size if they contain a special place to put envelopes. I
put envelopes in my normal paper drawer so I don't have to mess with
this stuff.
So you need to generate a page that matches the dimensions of your
envelope, relative to the way you put it in the printer.
Start by creating a new page style.. with the dimension of the envelope,
<F11> select the page style, right click the default page style default
and save a new page style
give it any name you want. Something like customEnvelope
Now right click the new style and select modify
under the page tab select page size as "custom"
enter the page size relative to the way you insert the envelope into the
printer
if you were putting letter paper into the printer landscape you would
enter the dimension as width 11 height 8.5 save the new style.
now that you have a new page style... to match your envelope just apply
this style to any page you want.
you apply the style by clicking on the page <F11> click the page style
selector and select the new style. <F11> to close the styler.
after you get it working save a blank page (with your new style) as a
new default template. This will make the style available to all new
documents not just children of your new document. If you don't
understand this there is a good write up on the OO site I think it is
called something like "understand styles" The basics is that styles all
originate from the document the style originally was created in. So you
have two options create a new template and select it when you start a
new document or start with a new which originates from default modify it
and then save it back as the default. If its a style I use all the time
I don't like messing around with selecting a template I just select new
because I modify the default.
you can print multiple envelopes by using form printing, just like on
the page. I think this will solve your problem.. let me know if it
doesn't
as a passing comment.. let me say this..
your life will be so simple if you learn styles... If you need help
with styles let me know I spent 2 years of my life teaching styles for
Xerox to large print shops which were learning publishing. yea this was
before Publisher and pagemaker.. I hate to say..
if you listen hard you will hear Bryan cheering in New York..... He does
that any time styles come up.. Fred
