'Windoze is NOT required. In fact, ask them if they support MacIntosh!
Duh! So, I plug in a Mac and tell them it is connecting.

The answer is that you simply plug in the Mac and go.

All my installs have a small 2 to 4 port router/switch with firewall, or
IPCOP, and then the connection comes up, and stays active until power is
cycled.

The server doesn't discriminate among *BSD, GNU/Linux distros, or even
the MacIntosh revisions from OS 6.5 through 10.4.4!

ISPs like Verizon and Bright House sure are stupid. Microsoft
Executives sign SEC filings, that state what they have deposed in court
under oath, that in 2005 GNU/Linux was used by at least 17% of all
Internet users, with a growth rate of 3% to 5% per annum, since 2005.

For an ISP to reject a potential market of up to 25% of all users would
be a stupid move if they ever want to prosper in the market!

I like to ask them if they permit Google and Microsoft connections
because those are both full run on Linux servers. And, Hotmail and
Yahoo are FreeBSD. Then the confused monkey script techs pass me on to
a level much higher, or, just press the button and go away.

Bill Gates speech at CES sure sounded like an admission that the
Microsnot monopoly is over! The part about how market lead has
'slipped', but MS code is in lots of other technology, is easy to see
as "if you have a phone or gps that acts weird, BSODs, or resets at odd
times, it might have MS code in it".
