[Leaplist] LINUX memory shortfall

A couple of things:

1) On FC6 the standard kernel will let you get access to over 4 Gb.
SMP kernel will get you to 16 Gb. It is better to use these than to
try the hugemem kernel under 16 Gb. If you have less than 16 Gb of
memory and you use the hugemem kernel, you will take a performance hit
due to the 4Gb/4Gb split and the overhead dealing with an additional
level of memory page tables.

2) Tho RHEL5 and its derivative CentOS5 are very good if you want
longer term OS versions (which you seem to if you are still using
FC6), you can also use a 64-bit version of FC6 to get the memory
benefits.
