Anyone want some Cisco equipment?
I left (2) 1700 series and (1) 1600 series at the other house.
If my brother didn't thrown them out, those will be available for free
(from the piles of stuff).
I also have a Cisco 2600 series in fantastic shape with ALL
documentation, books and cables (I got it new 3 years ago) and has a
T1 csu/dsu in it. Don't recall IOS version.
I have a 1720 with T1 csu/dsu, power supply that also works perfectly.
These were replaced by more powerful Linux-based PC firewalls and IDS
systems and have been sitting on my shelf for awhile.
I am completely comfortable in Cisco IOS. I chose Linux boxes for
features, security and performance. See, you CANNOT load up elaborate
ipaccess lists on a 'low end' Cisco router and not expect a
performance hit. For cryin' out loud, the 1720 has a PowerQUICC
MPC860 processor running at 40 MHz. Now that is fine for just routing,
but I want MORE.
I want real traffic shaping, stateful inspection, IDS. Heck, let's
throw in transparent proxying and VPN. Well, rather than upgrade to
more expensive Cisco line of router, I switch to commodity PC
hardware. For $250 I have a complete new PC server running linux with
plenty of RAM and processing speed to-boot. I have been running these
hombuilt routers since the late 90's and they keep going and going.
On a couple of them, I have replace the minitower cases with those
mini-atx desktop boxes.
Anywhoo....So I still have good Cisco equipment for hacking, test
prep, whatever. Just won't be in any production environment for my
clients.
Any interesting trades out there (broken xbox360, firearm, paintball
gear, motors)?
