Client is sticking with Quickbooks connectivity needs are minimal
(just to convert quotes from CRM into order into Quickbooks).

I think a standalone CRM is best (isolate sales from accounting
systems) and just push orders into the Quickbooks (and then using
manufacturing modules to complete construction, billing, inventory,
etc).

There are a number of OpenSource packages that connect with quickbooks.
osCommerce (which I have used for years) has a QuickBooks integrator

SugarCRM supposedly has connectors for Quickbooks

Always-ON CRM used the Qconnector to connect with quickbooks

I think XRMS might work. I don't know anything about that one though.
