I've occasionally had stability issues, but it has generally been a  
few specific releases that were patched quickly.  I have, however,  
seen it become a major memory hog back in the v1.x days, though I  
haven't kept an eye on it since v2 so it might have improved.

V2 is pretty good in this regard, what was the last release you tried?

Given that it is a gtk app this doesn't surprise me too much.  Has  
nobody done a KDE gui on top of libpidgin yet?
