[Leaplist] an ipcop question

You can use an Ethernet card, but this requires additional software
To provide the "Host-based AP" instead for firmware-base AP.
Typically vendors don't share the latter without a license.

It's typically much either to just use an external device, especially
for a "canned distro" like IP, because of the modifications required.
Although I haven't kept up with what HostAP support IP Cop may
provide out-of-the-box.

I paid $50 for my AP 2 years ago (list was $120+), and it still have
a beefer uC than any of today's cheap 'Ritters. I was slamming
the hell out of it with 3 nodes the weekend, and my Stinkpad T60's
transmitter crapped out well before it (the other two nodes
kept going hard, along with the 4 lesser used nodes).

Gang,

If I may tag on with my own related question....

I have an IPCOP box I plan to deploy Real Soon Now. At present, the blue
net is a standard Ethernet card like the others.

Question 1: Given the understanding that what I want is an "access
point" rather than a simple wireless link, can this be had on a PCI card
that plugs into the place of the Ethernet card, or must a separate box
be employed using an Ethernet link?

Question 2: Regardless the answer to the above, what specific devices
would you recommend to someone who expects as many as six simultaneous
active links and who doesn't much care if he can get in and muck about
with the OS or firmware?

Thanks,
Bruce
