I don't get any errors like that and I use these mount options on a Ubuntu
Dapper 6.06 Server installation:
size=32768,wsize=32768,timeo=14,intr

This is to connect to another Ubuntu Hardy 8.10 Server to do file backups.
Maybe the above options will work for you.
