What happens if you turn off the "yum-updated" service? That's what I
always used to do because of the same issue -- the darn thing locking
the RPM database so I can't do YUM. Many, many non-privileged GNOME
applets are utilizing privileged services.
I know PackageKit is a very cross-distro move, of which Fedora has been
trying to do more and more (and even leading in many areas). But if
this thing is more nagware, this needs to be addressed. I'm updating my
Fedora 9 system now (I'll be moving to F10 probably this week) and
seeing what the issues are.
