[Leaplist] pdf install on 64 bit machine

I am running  Ubuntu (the latest) on a 64 bit machine.  I have not been
able to install "pdf" on the machine for some reason.  
No clues, just will not run after putting in all of the apt-get
install's I can find.
Suggestions please.
