I'm interpreting your request to mean apps (or pkgs) that any user can install
and use. I'm staying completely away from custom scripts, and home grown
software, since the average 'Joe' can't download or update them and will
likely write their own.
Here's a short list of technologies/categories/whatever, with frequently used
apps by preference. (Most have multiples, to deal with unique circumstances,
such as GUI vs. CLI). Feel free to tweak the categories or clump them
differently (everybody sees groups differently).
