[Leaplist] Fedora Install Disks, by OSDisc won't work

I didn't realize that my name is actually "Joe Bftspk" like the guy who
always had a rain cloud over his head in the "Li'l Abner" comic strip.
Here's the situation.
I own a Fedora Core 9 Installation disc bought from OS Disc Co.
I also own a Fedora Core 8 Installation disc bought from OS Disc Co.
(Yes I've successfully downloaded Fedora core x install files and used
them successfully. OS Disc is very reasonable, prompt and the discs
"work."
I have installed Fedora core 8 on a computer using the OS Disc product
and it worked fine.
I have installed Fedora core 9 on two separate comuters using the OS
Disc product and it worked fine.
Now then, I own a third older computer which runs Fedora core 5 as its
Op. System. This computer has both a DVD/CD drive and a CD Drive.
When I boot the computer it works fine; no trouble going on line, no
trouble using Terminal commands, creating Open Office.org Writer
documents, etc. While it's older, it hasn't been used much and there's
plenty of free space on it in all partitions. I mean Gigabytes of free
space in root, in home, in var and in temp, etc. I ran df -h to
refresh my memory about the space situation.
So what's my problem?
Well --- I put the OS Disc Co.'s Install Fedora core 9 disc in this
older machine, booted the machine expecting the Install Fedora core 9
screen to show up, but instead, the computer booted into Fedora core 5.
I shut the computer completely OFF and started it again, a cold boot,
with the Fedora core 9 Install disk in the DVD drive. Again, Fedora core
5 booted. The DVD disc icon shows up on the desktop but as far as I know
when that happens you never can start the Install program from the icon
disc on the Desktop. I tried it
but can't get the Install program to start. This is the very same Fedora
core 9 Installation Disc which I have used to install Fedora core 9
successfully on two other computers.
I removed the FC-9 install disk from the machine whose OP System is FC-5
and put in the Fedora core 8 Installation Disc. Remember that this FC-8
Installation disc is the very same one which I have successfully
used to install Fedora core 8 on a separate machine. Again, the machine
booted to Fedora core 5.
Any suggestions re what might be wrong?
======================================================
There have been no responses to my search for an experienced Linux user
to assist me in configuring my "Main" computer in return for being paid
an hourly charge for his/her time. I hope to be able to pay a fee which
the
experienced Linux user would think was fair pay.
I will drive to Orlando, bringing the computer along, for the
convenience of such a person. I could also provide a place to do the
work other than in the person's own home or office if that would be
preferable.
Thanks very much,
William
