Just FYI, tsclient is just a front end for rdesktop.  rdesktop is a CLI 
RDP application.  I have used both in the past.  If you are suffering 
performance issues with tsclient, you might suffer the same issues with 
rdesktop.  It very well could have something to do with Mint and its 
settings more then with the client application.

Just something to think about.
