They're attempting to compete in mindshare against the OSS languages and 
the companies that are so OSS-focused they refuse to look at any 
technologies that aren't.  They also are known for their "Java-focused" 
server platform, the notion being that they should know how to run Java 
the best seeing as they created it, which obviously isn't free.
