In a lot of cases, /tmp is mounted to a RAM drive... meaning that when you
reboot, the contents of /tmp are wiped clean (irretrievably so). I
routinely do this on my own machines for performance reasons.

I agree with other people - don't store stuff under /tmp unless it's
really a temporary file. It will be wiped on reboot, or sooner (not
familiar with tmpclean process mentioned).
