Could it be that AMD doesn't want to screw the pooch like nVidia did
when they wrote the video driver that made Linux kernels vulnerable to
exploits?
I really hate closed source stuff, as much of the time, "security
through obscurity" often violates the system, usurps my Rights, and can
send sensitive information out to the Internet.
Once bitten, twice shy. Trust no one! As Benjamin Franklin said,
"two can keep a secret if one of them are dead!" I've seen the 'other'
side of code breaking. I don't trust any corporations, nor the
bankruptcy court staff that will sell your data for money to 'help' pay
off creditors.
